Our story begins with a flock of Merino sheep living at the base of Sabyinyo Volcano in northern Rwanda. The sheep are cared for around the clock and are sheared when the fleeces have reached 3 1/2 inches in length. The wool is triple washed, handspun and dyed primarily in baths created from local plants. This process produces a palette found nowhere else in the world.The project gives over 120 at-risk women, most of whom are genocide survivors living with HIV, dignified employment.
